GUNK! Demo and Tour

A common sentiment here on HarshVocals.com is: there is so much new music coming out that is just simply AWESOME that it is hard to keep up. New music is good, pretty much across the board, and the current wave of bands have managed to bridge time and space (or genres and styles). Gone are the days of bands being not only just Punk, Hardcore,  Rock, Metal, etc you will hear all these and more from show bills, singular bands and even the songs themselves. Personal styles vary as well with bands often representing a Breakfast Club (or Dregrassi or Euphoria or whatever show) like assemblage of people. GUNK! Is a band located in my hometown of Colorado Springs that exemplifies the future sound melange that has become so normal it was getting boring.

I first saw them as part of a fest/showcase for local label SINISTER that was also the closing show of a DIY venue (RIP Doghouse) run out of the basement of a bar. The whole thing was awesome and all the bands were great, most seemed to be very young and was both impressive and made me jealous (the music was way cooler here than the scene or tough guy hardcore stuff of the mid aughts when I was that age). GUNK! was probably the highlight and became an instant band to look out for on fliers. Roughly a year and a half later their debut demo has been released and Gunk! is set to tour the southwest.

The debut demo is about 12 minutes long and consists of  7 songs. It comes in a pink and clear clamshell with clear pink tape and a simple j card. Music like this is best experienced via the physical medium as streaming compression becomes very noticeable. The songs are fast, pissed off and very dynamic. It can be purchased from BC below.

On Valentines Day 2024 the band held a combo Demo Release/Tour Fundraiser/and a Dance Party! Local two-piece ass beater Struck Out opened and had the crowd (a primarily young crowd) running side to sides and throwing fists. Following some 90s RnB Gunk! took the stage. A dynamic and varied set followed that happened to contain all of the bands songs. The crowd moshed, circle pitted, and rolled around on the floor showing our utmost appreciation for what we were witnessing.  After the set the DJ resumed and jammed for a little bit.

Gunk! Is going to host a tour kick off show and will leave for Tour march 22nd. They will be going to New Mexico and Texas and some fliers are below. If you are nearby it is a must that you go, otherwise items can be bought via their bandcamp.
