OPEN KASKET – “Trials of Failure” Review

Ever hear a band and know exactly what they are going to be like to see live? That happened to me with Open Kasket. They’re the ones you’ll be sorry you missed the opportunity to see perform.

While this group hailing from Arkansas, USA, Is a “new to me” band, I believe they might be also be new to a lot of you. They’ve only been a group since 2022, but are making consistent and considerable headway. After joining with a new label – Barbaric Brutality Records, they are already slated to release the new album entitled Trials of Failure on February 7th, 2025.

Taking a look back into the band’s archive, the only thing that was lacking in their previous releases was the production. They’ve greatly improved it on Trials of Failure. Shout out to their previous track “Planetary Devastation (Pluto’s Not Dead)” for the Flynn feature! Who doesn’t love a Breaking Bad sample!? (linked down below)

It takes a lot for me to say “holy shit”, and not only did the new album make me react that way, but the discovery of the purchase options made me say it again! “Holy shit, there’s a Cassette tape option!??!” I’ve seen a lot of talk about vinyl being pressed in amazing colorways – in fact, I recently purchased my first Vinyl at the end of October at the Opeth show in LA! – I never did my concert write up so thought it fair to bring it up now. (Great show btw.) But. “HOLY SHIT. There’s a Cassette scene?!” Lets go! Anything physical media to me is fantastic.

I’m getting sidetracked.. Open Kasket fall under the genre of “Beatdown Death Metal”, where there’s the occasional breakdown to give the very aggressive mosh pits a slight breather before the fists start swinging again. If you’re a fan of say, Kublah Khan Tx, just turn up the aggression several times, and you’ve got Open Kasket.

While the album is on the shorter side, they deliver a whole lot in not a lot of time.

My favorite track on the album is “Chemical Death.”, but I also love “Internal Threat” which is the single they’ve released for the album (Check it out below!). Honestly though, there isn’t a bad track, and the whole album is full of gems.

I also love the album art. It’s as fantastic and gruesome as you’d expect from a band with a name like Open Kasket. I’m really hoping to hear more from this band in the future, and would love to see them have a tour date near me! Either way, they’ve got a new fan and I’ll be following along with whatever comes next!

So listen down below, and pick up the new album in cassette form!
