The maiden voyage on the US arm of this tour.
THE OBSERVATORY – SANTA ANA, CALIFORNIA!
This venue has quickly become the epicenter (even more since the tear down of the 5 Point Amphitheater) for shows of the heavier variety. Locals like Dino Cazares or Mike Muir have been known to be seen a time or two. This being my first concert in some time, I wanted to be welcomed back with open arms and body slams. This show didn’t disappoint at all!
2024 CANCER CULTURE TOUR FEAT:
DECAPITATED
SEPTIC FLESH
KATAKLYSM
ALLEGAEON
Two of these four bands, it was my first time seeing live. I’ve caught Decapitated and Septic Flesh prior, but as expected, both bands brought the heavy in payloads. Despite being a supporting tour for Decapitated’s most recent record, “Cancer Culture”, It had been postponed since the albums initial release. Speaking with the crowd, fans were eagerly anticipating it, and pretty active early on in the show.
ALLEGAEON – delivered the head bobbers and shoulder rockers early – returning singer Ezra Haynes got the joint moving and things didn’t really let up until the headliners – even then – the floor was rarely seen between footsteps and circle pits.
KATAKLYSM – Stuck to the program, chugged through, small intro – Some say their drummer is still setting up his equipment…
SEPTIC FLESH – Impressive all around, to see this band in either a venue or a theatre setting, and them killing it in both is insane. If it’s just the band or their entire orchestra – you’re in for an experience like no other.
DECAPITATED – The lashes of the head thrashing dreads from the lead singer Rafał and company kept the pace and led the crowd, playing only a handful of new tracks in support of the tour, and mixing in a couple of oldies. For instance… they played the album “Nihility” in it’s entirety. It was a great and solid treat for long time fans.
The tour wrapped up a several weeks ago (USA) – I heavily recommend checking out any of the bands on this tour when then venture out over the globe. The company of these groups is going to stay heavy and get even stronger with another tour under the belt.
Till the next show. \m/
